Every third Pole does not move at all – according to the MultiSport Index 2019 report. In the ranking of the most physically active EU countries, Poland was placed at the bottom end.
Physical activity of Poles
We can, of course, look at it from the other side – according to research, 64 percent. Poles are active. It’s about 2 percent. more than a year ago. There are reasons to be satisfied? Yes and no.
More and more people are realizing the importance of movement. – This is the beginning of changes in the right direction. At the same time, it should be remembered that this indicator takes into account physical activity undertaken at least once a month, and the postulated minimum doses of adult activity according to the World Health Organization (WHO) are 150 minutes of moderate or 75 minutes of intense physical exertion per week. From this perspective, the results of the survey are not so optimistic for Poles – says Dr. Janusz Dobosz from the National Center for Physical Condition Research at the University of Physical Education in Warsaw.
Unfortunately, we are still far from the European average. The rate for the EU is 71%. active. Among the EU countries, we are sixth from the bottom – it is worse than in Poland in Portugal, Malta, Italy, Romania and Bulgaria. We were ahead of Cyprus, Croatia and Hungary. Among the leaders are Finland, Denmark, the Netherlands and Sweden, where as many as 94% declare being active. residents!

Physical activity and health
What should please us is the motivation to be active. During the MultiSport Index 2019 survey, it turned out that as much as 43 percent. Poles exercise for their health – it was the most common reason given. Good health is a better incentive to play sports than a pretty figure!
It is not for nothing that it is said that sport is the cheapest drug. The list of benefits of regular physical activity is really impressive.
What can change as we start to move more? In addition to better condition and metabolism, sport helps to maintain a healthy body weight. Physical activity reduces sugar levels, stabilizes blood pressure, strengthens the immune system and works well for the musculoskeletal system. Let’s not forget about the advantages for our psyche – training can be a great recipe for stress or sleep disorders.
So let’s walk, cycle or go to fitness classes more often. According to research conducted by American experts from the Cleveland Clinic, physical inactivity is more harmful than smoking! The less we move, the higher the risk of a heart attack, stroke, diabetes or high blood pressure. But it doesn’t stop there – Lack of exercise can contribute to some types of cancer, including breast cancer and colorectal cancer.
