Polcrom 2% – action, indications, dosage, side effects

Polcrom 2% is an over-the-counter medicine in the form of a nasal spray. It is taken prophylactically in the treatment of seasonal and all-year-round allergic rhinitis. The active substance of the preparation is sodium cromoglycate, it stops the release of histamine in the course of allergic reactions, thanks to which no allergy occurs. The drug can also be used preventively before contact with a dog or cat allergen.

POLCROM 2% – action of the preparation

Polcrom 2% is a medicine that regulates the membranes of mast cells and has an anti-allergic effect. The active substance sodium cromoglycate contained in it inhibits the secretion of histamine, thus preventing the appearance of allergy.

POLCROM 2% – indications and dosage

The Polcrom 2% nasal spray is indicated for use by people struggling with seasonal and year-round rhinitis. The drug relieves unpleasant symptoms of allergies and has a preventive effect in the event of contact with specific allergens, e.g. with cat or dog hair.

Dosage of Polcrom 2%:

  1. Adults and children after 3 years of age 1 dose (2,8 mg) in each nostril 4-6 × / day.

Polcrom 2% should be taken according to the doctor’s instructions and the information provided on the leaflet. Prophylaxis of seasonal allergic rhinitis should be started at least 1 week before exposure to the allergen and continued throughout the season.

People with universities and hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients of the preparation should stop using the drug.

Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult a doctor before taking Polcrom 2%. The aerosol canister is intended for use by one person as contamination may occur. Please note that the preparation is intended for external use, for children over 3 years of age.

POLCROM 2% – side effects of taking the drug

The following side effects may occur when using Polcrom 2%:

  1. periodic irritation of the nasal mucosa,
  2. redness and swelling of the nasal mucosa,
  3. sneezing,
  4. nosebleed,
  5. wheezing
  6. a feeling of tightness in the chest,
  7. taste impairment,
  8. Headache,
  9. rash,
  10. hypersensitivity (anaphylactic reaction may occur).
