Can a drug for monkey pox go to Poland? “Conversations are continuing”
– Talks are underway about the direct purchase from the manufacturer by the Government Strategic Reserves Agency of the drug for monkey pox, the reason for problems with purchases by public wholesalers – said in an interview with “Dziennik Gazeta Prawna” Deputy Minister of Health Maciej Miłkowski.
Miłkowski informed that the ministry wants to introduce changes to the reimbursement act – the ministry itself will reimburse drugs that are popular, without waiting for a move from the manufacturer. Currently, for the drug to be reimbursed, the company must report to the ministry and pay for it. “We want certain basic preparations to be reimbursed to a greater extent than before. This rule is also to apply to those drugs that have been present on our market for a long time, ”said the deputy minister.
Asked whether the ministry will analyze the market and select which reimbursed drugs are most often purchased, he confirmed, adding that the Agency for Health Technology Assessment will deal with it.

When asked whether there will be medicines for monkey pox available in Poland, Miłkowski informed that the ministry was approached by national and provincial consultants to agree to target imports for hospitals. “We have given our consent, but talks are underway about direct purchases from the producer by the Government Strategic Reserves Agency, due to problems with purchases by retail wholesalers,” he said.
He also announced that Poland is waiting for the outcome of the EU tender for vaccines against monkey pox. As he announced, Poland has so far ordered approx. vaccines. “We want to have an open path, but we don’t know what the needs will be,” he said.
