Psychoenergizing drugs include all drugs with a stimulating psychotropic effect. Medicines that are known and traditionally used for this purpose for a long time are: caffeine, cardiazole and strychnine.

Due to abuse (chronic poisoning) and acute (suicidal) poisoning, modern preparations stimulating the cortex of the brain and the sympathetic nervous system, such as amphetamine, phenmetrazine, phenoxyacetic acid derivatives, pemoline, deanol acetamidobenzoate, are of greater importance in toxicology.

Symptoms of poisoning

Acute poisoning (over 30 mg of amphetamine) is manifested by very strong agitation, anxiety, convulsions, increased heart rate, increased blood pressure and body temperature, shortness of breath, dilated pupils, insomnia. After very high doses (over 100 mg), these symptoms soon turn into a state of complete exhaustion with loss of consciousness, decreased heart rate, decreased blood pressure, sphincter paralysis and haematuria. Death occurs as a result of shock or paralysis of the respiratory system.

First aid

Immediately after taking medications: medicated charcoal in water solution, inducing vomiting, laxatives. Providing total peace of mind. In case of high body temperature – cool wraps. In severe poisoning: securing basic life activities, administering oxygen.

Treatment

Immediate medical attention is needed.
