The most popular disinfectants contain hypochlorites, phenolic compounds or pine oil. Often they also contain detergents. Properly used and dissolved in water is not a problem. However, consumption of undissolved disinfectants can cause poisoning.

Symptoms of poisoning

Hypochlorites and phenolic compounds are irritating and may cause burns. Concentrated pine oil causes not only irritation of the digestive tract and stomach, disturbs the central nervous system, but also poses a risk of choking. Spontaneous vomiting may occur in patients who have consumed a product containing detergents.

First aid

As with all household poisoning, contact a poison control center for treatment.
