Diffenbachia varieties, due to their large speckled leaves and their size, are the most popular indoor plants and often decorate offices.

Unlike the philodendron, which is a climbing plant, difenbachia tends to grow vertically on a large reed-like stalk, which means that the plant is often placed on the floor where it is easily accessible to children. Like philodendron, difenbachia belongs to the Araceae family and exhibits the same toxic properties. It is often referred to as “mute reed” because those who chewed the stalk were unable to speak due to severe irritation and swelling in the mouth.
