Manicured feet are our showpiece – those neglected, dry, with uncut nails and prints do not reflect us well. However, not everyone is aware that cracking or ingrown nails, thickenings and corns may indicate serious diseases. In such cases, only a podiatry pedicure can help.
Podiatry and cosmetic pedicure
Often, not being aware of the condition of our feet, instead of going to a podiatrist, we go to a cosmetic pedicure at a beautician. Of course, if we do not have problems such as calluses, corns, ingrown toenails or calloused, cracked heels, a pedicure made by a beautician will be suitable for us.
A beautician usually starts by preparing a foot bath and then applying the scrub. The next step is to remove the callous epidermis with a grater or milling machine. Then the cuticles are cut out, and the nails are shortened and usually painted. Such a care treatment takes about 30 minutes. Such care will be sufficient if our problem is limited to dry skin on the feet. However, it is definitely not enough when the problem is more serious.
Unfortunately, there is still a perception that neglected feet are something embarrassing. That is why we rarely decide to visit a podiatrist specialist, and hide the sick feet in our shoes and try to forget about the problem. This is a huge mistake. The sooner we seek the help of a specialist who knows the feet, the less painful the type and the shorter the treatment.
Before the first visit to the podiatrist
Before the first visit to the podiatrist, it is worth preparing for it. First of all, let’s make sure that our feet are clean. However, do not apply any creams, ointments or sprays on them. If we paint nails on a daily basis, use a nail polish remover before the visit. It is best to get rid of the varnish from the nails 2-3 days before the visit – during this time the nail will return to the state it was before painting, and the podiatrist will more easily assess the condition of our plate.
The course of podiatry pedicure
At the first visit, the podiatrist should take an interview regarding our general health. The established health card should contain not only his notes, but also photos of his feet before the procedure. Thanks to a comprehensive interview, a professional podiatrist will be able to identify the source of our foot problems.
The next step is to present the treatment plan to the patient. It often happens that a podiatrist recommends a prior consultation with a dermatologist, endocrinologist or diabetologist, and then proceeds to the procedure. During it, he removes changes such as:
- calluses,
- prints,
- warts,
- warts,
- ingrown nails,
- calloused and cracked skin on the heels.
A qualified specialist is able to perform such activities painlessly for the patient. After 1-2 hours After the treatment, the podiatrist treats any wounds and recommends appropriate preparations to be used at home on the affected skin. The cost of one treatment is PLN 100-250.
A podiatrist can perform procedures such as nail reconstruction surgery or removal of an ingrown nail.
How often do I see a podiatrist?
There are no contraindications for using a podiatry pedicure. It is worth remembering that in the case of problems with the feet, the treatment should be performed every 4-6 weeks throughout the year. More frequent keratinized skin removal it will only make the problem worse. However, it is worth taking care of and remembering about the daily proper hygiene and care of the feet, so that putting on shoes with open feet is never stressful for us again.
