PMS, or premenstrual syndrome, is known not only to women but also to doctors. Malignants, mostly men, sometimes say that a woman is either before, after, or during her period, so her bad mood should be absolved for a whole month.

Symptomy PMS

Premenstrual syndrome, also called here PMS-em, from the English name premenstrual syndrome, covers almost 300 symptoms, both mental and somatic. The most common are: irritability, unjustified anger, aggression, irritability, sadness, depression, tearfulness, decreased self-esteem, breast hypersensitivity, feeling water retention in the body, intestinal problems (diarrhea, constipation), skin eruption, joint pain, headache, fatigue. And 285 other possibilities.

The PMS symptom repertoire is not constant, the set may change every month, and the severity of individual symptoms is also variable. Women whose mental components predominate so strong that, in extreme cases, they make normal life and work difficult, perhaps belong to the 2-6% of patients suffering from premenstrual dysphoric tensione (Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD)). Dysphoria is described as the opposite of euphoria, but to women who know what we’re talking about, it sounds like a cynical joke.

In the case of bothersome symptoms of PMS or menstrual disorders, perform a package of female hormonal balance tests. The set of tests allows the assessment of indicators such as TSH, prolactin, SHBG or DHEA-SO4. If you want to improve the work of hormones, order Hormone Balance – a natural herbal mixture for her Lorem Vit, the ingredients of which help regulate the level of hormones in the body.

There are different voices in the global discourse on the PMS: that PMS is a real medical problem, that the hole-seeking and collective psychosis triggered by a campaign by pharmaceutical companies, or that naming medical names of normal physiological processes leads to stigmatization of women. The disputes will probably continue for a long time, and sometimes millions of women experience hell every month.

– In my opinion, premenstrual syndrome meets the requirements for being recognized by the WHO (World Health Organization) as a disease and should be treated as such. Those few days before the onset of menstruation can turn a woman’s life into a nightmare. At the same time, it ricochets in her God the spirit of innocent households – says Leszek Radomyski, specialist in endocrinology, gynecology and obstetrics, who runs a gynecological endocrinology clinic in Lublin.

This is an important voice, because in many surgeries in Poland, women complaining about PMS ailments are told not to overdo it and not to feel sorry for themselves. Probably many of them think they are crazy and have made up their symptoms and a nasty mood.

One of the methods of alleviating PMS symptoms are natural remedies, including supplements with chasteberry to regulate the menstrual cycle, available at the Medonet Market.

During the period, not only disposable pads and tampons can be used. Recently, the use of reusable products, such as menstrual cups, has become fashionable. At Medonet Market you can buy, among others:

  1. Perfect Cup – a set of menstrual cups in two sizes,
  2. FunCup – a set of menstrual cups in two sizes.

Your Honor, this is PMS

Recognition of the PMS, aka PMS, as a disease is perhaps still ahead of him, but an important signal proving the social acceptance of the problem were court judgments which in the 80s treated the condition of PMS as a mitigating circumstance in two English murder trials (sic !) and armed robbery. The gender of the judge is unknown, but the caliber of the PMS was hereby sealed.

It has not been established exactly what causes PMS, or why some women go through hell while others don’t even notice that something is happening. It has certainly been stated that the occurrence of ovulatory cycles is a risk factor for PMS, so the decisive influence is the fluctuating concentration of hormones produced by the ovaries in the second half of the menstrual cycle, called the luteal phase. It is highly likely that there are also clinical-confirmed disorders in the function of neurotransmitters (chemicals that enable communication between individual nerve cells), especially serotonergic pathways (in short, affecting our mood).

Therefore, it seems that susceptibility to PMS is a product of sensitivity to hormonal fluctuations, genetic predisposition and functionality of neurotransmitters. There is also a relationship between the state of premenstrual tension and the worsening of symptoms of mental disorders such as depression, bipolar disorder or schizophrenia. It is also believed that healthy women with PMS are more likely to develop depression.

PMS symptoms can be alleviated by regularly using Shatavari – YANGO dietary supplement available on Medonet Market at a promotional price.

If the case is so serious that it may be a mitigating factor in a murder trial, how is PMS treated?

– This treatment, or rather non-treatment, is a remorse of modern gynecology – admits Dr. Leszek Radomyski. – Attempts are made to work in various ways: from changing the lifestyle and diet, through hormonal treatments (usually contraceptive pills with therapeutic efficacy in this case comparable to placebo), to neuroleptic drugs, usually used in “pure” psychiatry, but the results are not they are too optimistic. At least not every woman is predictably good.

The more that taking drugs that affect the state of hormones is often associated with the need to use other measures, adjusting the other functions of the body to the new concentration. It also happens that the use of hormonal contraception initiates the appearance of PMS symptoms in women who have never experienced them before. Medical consultation is important for one more reason: symptoms similar to those in the course of PMS may also occur in other gynecological diseases and more.

Do you suffer from PMS? Also consult your gynecologist and find the best solution together. You can use the online consultation option. Register now and talk to your doctor without leaving your home.

It seems that the most effective in treating unbearable and disturbing symptoms are antidepressants from the SSRI group (in Polish: selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, which facilitate the action of the neurotransmitters of the hormone responsible for our mood, i.e. serotonin).

Antidepressants work after about 3-4 weeks (although often faster) and are very effective in eliminating PMS symptoms. Unfortunately, they carry the stigma of “drugs from a psychiatrist”, and this is often unacceptable in Polish conditions.

Do you use tampons or disposable pads during your period? Do you want to try out a new solution? We recommend reusable Loffme ecological sanitary pads available on Medonet Market.

Dr. Leszek Radomyski confirms that in America, antidepressants are the most common medicine used in the treatment of PMS, and although he is aware that Polish doctors often underestimate the problem, he encourages patients not to give up.

– You need to change medications, perform additional tests, seek advice from doctors of other specialties. The positive effect of treatment is not always guaranteed, but PMS is certainly a very troublesome condition and should not be underestimated!

Women should pay close attention to their health, so regular checkup is important. In this aspect, it is worth performing diagnostic blood tests.

True, life is too short to waste a few precious days each month trying to survive a terrible physical and mental well-being. You have to seek help from gynecologists or psychiatrists, even if it comes down to saying aloud that: – You are not crazy, you did not make this up. Millions of women around the world go through the same thing.

Just knowing that nothing abnormal is happening can help.

Evening Primrose Oil Bioherba, which you can buy at a promotional price on Medonet Market, will help to relieve the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome. We also recommend Yarrow Premium ™ – support during menstruation available in the form of convenient capsules.
