Plumeria: home care
Plumeria is a deciduous plant that belongs to the kutrovy family. It got its name in honor of the famous French botanist Charles Plumer. Has a second name – “frangipani”. The plant is recognized for its beautiful flowering and sweet aroma. Flowering occurs in summer. The inflorescences are large – 10 cm in diameter. At home, this flower reaches 2 meters in height.
In Russia and the near abroad, frangipani is a rather rare flower. For this reason, many amateurs make mistakes in caring for this flower, as a result, the plant gets sick and dies.
Plumeria blooms all summer and exudes a sweet scent
To avoid these problems, it is worth taking some time to familiarize yourself with the important points in growing plumeria.
- Choosing the location of the flower. For a comfortable existence, the plant is best kept in the southeast window.
- Frangipani loves light. Avoid places where there is little sunlight during the day.
- The room temperature should be 25-28 degrees.
- The flower loves water. Abundant watering is required once a week. All excess water must be drained to avoid root rot.
- Humidification in the summer. However, it is worth remembering that moisturizing a flowering bush is contraindicated.
- Top dressing. The flower must be fertilized with mineral fertilizers, which include phosphorus once every three months.
Pruning and shaping the crown of the bush must be carried out in the middle of winter. A later time can negatively affect budding.
Reproduction of the flower in the home
Plumeria at home can be propagated in two ways:
- Through the seed. To grow a seedling, you need to soak mature seeds for 24 hours. Growth accelerators can be added to the solution. After that, the seeds are planted, vertically sticking into the ground, leaving the wing of the seed on the surface. It is important that the seeds are sown one at a time in a pot, since frangipani does not tolerate transplanting well. It is best to prepare the soil for planting yourself. It should be composed of sand, earth and cast in equal proportions.
- By cuttings. To do this, you need to cut off the branches of 15-20 cm. After cutting, the cuttings can be stored for several days in a cool place. On the one hand, there should be a straight cut, on the other – oblique. Before planting, you need to rinse the cuttings from the juice and dry well. Plant in ready-made soil to a depth of no more than 10 cm. The composition of the soil is the same as when grown through seeds. The stalk must be covered with a jar or film to create a greenhouse effect. The plant takes root for a long time – about three months.
These two methods will help propagate plumeria, which will delight with its flowering and sweet aroma.
Frangipani is a beautiful flower that does not require much maintenance. However, propagating a plant is a huge and painstaking work.
