Plum juice for the winter

Plum juice is a product not only very tasty, but also healthy. Since it is not very popular with consumers of packaged juices (which means that it is more difficult to find it on store shelves than drinks from other fruits and berries), it is healthier and easier to make it yourself.

How to make plum juice: general rules

Despite the variety of recipes, there are also general rules for making homemade plum juice, on the basis of which you can create your own variations of blanks:

  1. The first rule applies to any conservation – cooking must be clean, the products must not contain impurities, and jars and lids must first be sterilized or at least washed clean and doused with boiling water.
  2. For one kilogram of fruit, there is usually 100 grams of sugar.
  3. Fruits intended for harvesting must be of good quality – ripe, not rotten and not overripe. It is desirable to use sweet varieties, but this, of course, is a matter of taste.
  4. In the process, it is not advisable to mix the plum with other fruits.
  5. In order for the fruits to give juice better, they are scalded with boiling water before cooking.

Plum juice: benefits and harms

The beneficial properties of the drink are not limited to its relatively low calorie content (50 kilocalories per 100 grams). It consists of:

  • vitamins B, A, C;
  • potassium and phosphorus;
  • pectins and tannins.

Due to the high content of potassium, the drink has a positive effect on the nervous system, strengthens blood vessels, and, therefore, can be used to prevent cardiovascular diseases.

Important! Plum juice is good for the intestines and has a laxative and diuretic effect, milder than that which occurs after eating fresh fruit.

The antioxidants contained in the drink have a beneficial effect on the body, improving the condition of the skin and hair. The drink is also useful for people suffering from high cholesterol in the blood, as well as for anemia, kidney and liver diseases.

However, this product also has disadvantages. Firstly, it is not recommended for use in case of individual contraindications. Secondly, despite the low calorie content, it cannot be used for weight loss (and it is strictly forbidden for obesity or diabetes), since the ratio of BJU in it is extremely uneven – there is a strong bias towards carbohydrates. Thirdly, it is better not to abuse it in diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and rheumatism.
