Planting the liverwort ordinary

Liverwort is a plant that blooms in early spring immediately after the snow melts. Under natural conditions, it grows only in the forest, which is why it received another name – “copse”.

It is a perennial flower with a lifespan of up to 25 years. The liverwort blooms from the beginning of April throughout the month.

The liverwort has large six-petaled flowers

The plant has the following description:

  • The root system is fibrous, well developed. New adventitious roots are formed annually.
  • Rosette leaves, saturated green, located next to the root.
  • Stems are straight, brown, thin. Their height is different – from 5 to 30 cm, depending on the type of plant.
  • The flowers are large, grow singly, odorless. The color is varied – pink, blue, purple, blue, white flowers are rare. During the day they are directed upwards, and at night they close and go down.
  • There are many stamens, they ripen at different times. The first are pollinated by bees, and then self-pollination occurs.
  • The fruits outwardly resemble small nuts. Up to 60 seeds are formed in each of them.

Under natural conditions, the noble liverwort begins to bloom at the 6-7th year of life, and in a flowerbed, with the correct content, 3-4 years after planting.

Planting and caring for the liverwort

Liverwort is planted in autumn or spring after flowering ends. When landing, the following nuances must be taken into account:

  • The copse feels good in the shade, so it is advisable to plant it under any tree. In a sunny place, the leaves become covered with black spots and fall off. Until next spring, the plant is recovering and blooming again.
  • The soil must be moisture-absorbing. Sands and loams are also suitable for planting, but poor moisture can cause the plant to lose its leaves.
  • A mixture of chernozem and sod soil, bark, sawdust, fallen leaves should be poured into the planting pit. You can also add compost and nitrogen fertilizer.
  • When planting a liverwort, the bush can be divided into several outlets with roots. Renewal buds should be above the soil.

If the plant likes the place, it does not need special care. It is recommended annually to fertilize the flower and renew the mulch – to lay fallen leaves of forest trees (oak, poplar, birch) around the root collar.

The copse will decorate any flower bed. You should not put it in a pot and keep it in the room. So the plant will feel bad and stop blooming.
