Planting loosestrife in the open field

There are more than 100 varieties of loosestrife, but most often on personal plots you can find spotted loosestrife, since planting and growing this variety does not cause difficulty even for inexperienced gardeners. The plant is very unpretentious and easily takes root on any soil.

Breeding methods of spotted loosestrife

Reproduction of loosestrife is possible in several ways – by seeds and by dividing rhizomes. The first method is quite troublesome and is used mainly by experienced gardeners. After ripening, the seeds are dormant, therefore, 2 months before planting, they must be prepared by placing them in the refrigerator. This will speed up the germination process and increase the likelihood of seed germination. After that, the seeds can be immediately planted on the site or seedlings can be pre-grown.

Loose grass grown from seeds gives the first flowering only 2-3 years after planting

Vegetative reproduction is more popular among amateur gardeners, as it allows you to get the first flowering the next year. The preparation of planting material consists in dividing the rhizomes of the plant into several parts. The best time for this procedure is late autumn.

Planting and caring for loosestrife in the open field

In nature, the loosestrife selects places with a high moisture content. To provide conditions close to natural, it is necessary to select a moist, shaded area for planting a plant, but the presence of the sun will not become an obstacle for it. The composition of the soil does not really matter; only clay soils should be avoided. Before planting, the soil is fertilized with manure or compost.

Verbeynik grows intensively, so the distance between the bushes should be 50–70 cm.

Among perennials, the loosestrife is the record holder for unpretentiousness. It quickly takes root anywhere and practically does not require human intervention.

Planting a loosestrife on wet soil will eliminate the need for regular watering; irrigation will only be required in case of prolonged drought. It is not necessary to fertilize the plant during the growing season, the introduction of humus is done only in the fall

Verbeynik is resistant to pests and diseases. The only danger from which it should be protected is the invasion of aphids. The plant tolerates winter well and does not require foliage cover.

Lostweed bloom begins in early summer and lasts for a month. By cutting off the faded parts of the plant, you can provoke re-flowering. If you repeat this procedure throughout the season, then the bright yellow flowers of the shrub will delight the eye until late autumn.
