Planting dogwood in the fall
Planting a dogwood is a simple matter. Our tips will help you cope with this activity. In addition, we will show you which species are best to choose for planting.
Types and conditions of planting dogwood shrub
Dogwood grows as a shrub or tree. Its height reaches 7 cm. Fruits are sweet and sour. They can be painted in various shades of red and yellow.
Correct planting of dogwood will ensure a rich harvest
The tree grows well in warm climates, although it also tolerates frost. The soil must contain lime. If the soil is very acidic, then the tree bears worse fruit. Choose a brightly lit area for the tree to grow well and produce crops.
Provide enough room for the dogwood to grow. Plant at least two trees for effective pollination. The distance between them should not exceed 5 m.
To plant dogwood in the middle lane, choose the following types:
- “Amber”. Fruits are yellow, weighing 3 g. Fruiting occurs in September.
- “Vladimirsky”. Fruits of dark red color weighing 8 g. Ripen in August.
- “Firefly”. The fruits are black and red. They weigh 7-8 g. Fruiting occurs in August.
For planting, choose seedlings 1,3-1,5 m high with 5-6 skeletal branches. The seedling is 2 years old.
Planting and caring for dogwood in the fall
The order of planting dogwood is as follows:
- Dig a 65 x 65 cm planting hole.
- Add humus and mineral fertilizers to it.
- Raise the root collar 3 cm from ground level.
- Compact the ground well.
- Water the kustranik abundantly.
After planting and watering, the soil will settle. As soon as this happens, add it to the desired level.
When planting, be sure to drive a stake next to the seedling. It will keep a fragile bush in the wind.
Caring for dogwood is easy. To do this, regularly loosen the soil shallowly, weed it and water it. To speed up tree growth, add humus in the spring and manure in the fall. Prune the bushes from time to time.
Cornel is propagated by seeds, cuttings and layering. Seeds must be stratified. To do this, peel the pulp from the fruit and place the drupes in wet sawdust for 1 year. Without stratification, seeds germinate for about 2 years. Plant the drupe to a depth of 2,5 cm.
Choose a XNUMX year old seedling for vegetative propagation. Reproduction is easily carried out both by cuttings and by layering. Strengthen the cuttings under a film or glass container. To propagate dogwood by layering in the summer, dig the young shoots to the ground. In the spring, they can be dropped off at a permanent place.
