Planting daisies outdoors
The daisy is a biennial plant. Belongs to the Aster family. Has a second name – “pearl”. The homeland of this beautiful flower is Europe. There is a wild species of daisies, whose annual flower grows in the forests.
Breeding and growing methods for daisies
It is quite easy to propagate a pearl biennial flower.
There are 4 ways to grow new bushes in total:
- Growing seedlings from seeds.
- Using the cuttings method.
- Division of the bush.
- Sowing seeds directly into the ground.
It is worth noting that the choice of breeding method affects flowering.
Growing daisies through seeds outdoors
Sowing outdoors is the easiest way to grow flowers. However, it is worth considering the fact that with this method, flowering will occur only in the next season. When sowing, you must follow the sequence of actions:
- Prepare the soil. The soil should be loose without lumps.
- Make a small indentation.
- Water the soil liberally with warm water.
- Sow the seeds without digging them into the ground.
- Cover the flower bed with mulch. For these purposes, peat, sawdust or hay are suitable.
- Water the planting site regularly, do not allow the soil to dry out.
- After 28 days from the moment the sprouts appear, the seedlings dive to the permanent habitat of flowers.
Sowing seeds in open ground is carried out in early April, when the ground is completely warmed up. Planting in a flower bed is carried out at the end of summer. Flowering occurs in early spring the following year.
Planting daisies by dividing and grafting
Division is one of the easiest plants to reproduce. The procedure is carried out in the spring or after the end of flowering. In order to perform the division, it is necessary to dig out a part of a healthy bush. In this case, the root system of the plant must not be damaged. The resulting bush must be divided into 6-7 parts and planted in cups for rooting.
In order to perform the division, it is necessary to dig out a part of a healthy bush.
Cuttings are harvested in May. To do this, cut off young shoots with a sharp knife. Place them in glasses of light soil to form a root system.
Finished seedlings are planted in a permanent place in mid-September. For the winter period, the plant is covered. Also for these purposes, you can use mulch from peat or sawdust.
Like any plant, daisies require care, which can be described in several points:
- Weeding. Not required for dense planting of flowers.
- Watering. From 3 times a week to daily hydration. Depends on the weather. The higher the temperature, the more often watering is needed.
- Top dressing. It is best to use mineral fertilizers containing phosphorus. In the spring 1 time, in the summer 3 times with a break of 10 days.
Experienced gardeners recommend loosening the soil every year. This will help the plant develop properly and bloom profusely.
When choosing a method for planting daisies in open ground, it must be remembered that when planting seeds in open ground, flowering will occur only in the next season. When dividing and grafting, flowering occurs immediately.
