Why plant beets before winter

Many people are used to planting in the spring, but planting seeds in the fall can make your life a lot easier and help if you have harsh climates or want to finish some crops in the fall.

When planting beets before winter, you will harvest earlier

Podwinter sowing has the following advantages:

  • Such seedlings are more resistant to cold weather, lack of moisture and frost.
  • The germination process is much faster.
  • In the spring, you can focus on other cultures.
  • You will harvest earlier and get it even if it is a cold spring.

It is for these reasons that some gardeners choose this planting method.

  1. Choose seeds. Better for this are “Cold-resistant-19” and “Winter-474”.
  2. Loosen up the soil and remove all weeds.
  3. Dig up the ground and apply fertilizer.
  4. Decorate the beds and furrows with a depth of 3 centimeters at a distance of 20 centimeters from each other.
  5. Prepare a fertile soil to sprinkle the seeds.

After the preparation stage, proceed to sowing:

  1. The soil must be dry.
  2. Place the seeds in the pre-prepared furrows.
  3. Sprinkle prepared nutrient soil on top of the beds.
  4. Keep silent.
  5. Build an additional shelter for the winter with leaves or needles.

The planting process is easy, and even a novice gardener can handle it.

Caring for beets after planting includes several stages:

  1. After the snow begins to melt, remove the winter shelter from the beds.
  2. Loosen the top layer of the earth a little.
  3. Use a nitrogen complex fertilizer.
  4. Thin the seedlings after emergence.
  5. Provide regular watering and weeding.

Care is as simple as possible and does not require much time and effort from you.

It is important to note that this method will not work for you if you want to store beets in the winter. Beets planted in this way are only suitable for consumption in the summer while other seedlings are growing.
