In autumn, sea buckthorn gives a high yield of valuable berries, but for this you need to choose the right seedlings, plant them and provide the tree with good care.

Usually, it is customary to plant seedlings in early spring, since in autumn the plant tolerates all procedures worse. For planting, two-year-old trees are chosen, which have a well-developed root system, there are at least 3 skeletal roots and several shoots on the trunk.

Autumn planting is possible only in regions with a warm climate, where frosts start late. All work must be completed by mid-October so that the trees can root well.

Landing rules:

  • set aside a sunny area where several seedlings will fit;
  • dig up the soil and apply mineral fertilizers;
  • prepare a 65 × 65 cm planting pit, fill it with humus.

For abundant fruiting, several seedlings are placed in one area, since this plant is unisexual. Only female or male flowers are located on the tree. The soil is prepared in advance so that the earth settles well. After planting, the trunks are tied to supports so that the plants do not suffer from strong winds in winter.

At the end of summer, sea buckthorn fruits begin to ripen. They must be removed in a timely manner so that the branches do not break under the weight of the harvest. When all the berries are harvested, they make sanitary pruning of the shoots. All broken, dry and damaged branches are cut out, old bushes are rejuvenated.

During the dry season, trees are watered abundantly so that the root system is saturated with the necessary moisture. When caring for sea buckthorn in the fall, do not forget to feed the seedlings. During this period, organic matter and mineral fertilizers with phosphorus are applied. It is better to choose granular preparations that will gradually dissolve and nourish the tree. They are embedded in the soil to a depth of 10 cm.

Sea buckthorn tolerates frost well, it is afraid only of winter thaws

Do not be discouraged if the shoots are damaged and freeze. The bush recovers well from root growth. In harsh regions, young seedlings are additionally covered so that the root system does not suffer.

As you can see, planting sea buckthorn and caring for seedlings is not a hassle. This hardy tree is able to recover quickly and bear fruit well even in harsh conditions. Choose healthy seedlings to avoid disappointing results.
