Garden jasmine shrub, or chubushnik, is a deciduous shrub with golden yellow leaves and fragrant flowers. This favorite of landscape designers is used in group plantings and as a specimen in decorative compositions. Unpretentious to the composition of the soil, but loves light and warmth.

Garden jasmine – unpretentious and beautiful shrub

In spring, blooming garden jasmine truly decorates the garden. It is densely covered with white or cream flowers that exude a sweet scent. In total, there are about 70 varieties of chubushnik with a height of 1 to 3 m with different colors and shapes of flowers. Planting and caring for a shrub has its own characteristics, although few plants can boast of such unpretentiousness and endurance. It is frost-resistant, rarely sick, blooms from May to July, some varieties can bloom again in autumn.

Usually mock-orange is propagated by cuttings, planting them in spring or autumn. It is preferable to do this in autumn in September or early October. In the spring, this must be done before the leaves bloom. Jasmine does not like high groundwater. Therefore, in such areas, the bottom of the pit is covered with drainage from fragments of brick, expanded clay, fine gravel, crushed stone with a thickness of at least 15 cm.

Jasmine blooms violently in sunny areas, but it also tolerates partial shade. Loves light to medium loamy soils. For garden jasmine, it is ideal to prepare the following soil composition: leafy earth, humus, river sand – 3: 2: 1 part, respectively.

Landing:

  1. Dig a planting hole 0,6 m deep, free enough for the roots to be wide.
  2. Put drainage if necessary.
  3. Put part of the mixture on the bottom, pour over.
  4. A week later, when the soil settles, put the roots of the cuttings on a mound, cover with the remaining mixture and earth.
  5. Do not deepen the root collar, tamp the trunk circle.
  6. Pour 1-2 buckets of water under the bush. If the soil in the hole settles again, add dry soil.
  7. After a few days, mulch the circle with organic matter.

If several bushes are planted, the distance between them should be at least 0,5 m. Garden jasmine looks great as a hedge, fragrant in the summer for the whole garden.

Caring for your garden jasmine is easy. In hot weather, it is watered as needed, the landmark is leaves that have lost their elasticity. During the flowering period, he needs more frequent watering. It is advisable to remove weeds in time, loosen the soil.

Top dressing is done once a year in the spring. Slurry in a ratio of 1:10 is good for this – a bucket for each bush. Wood ash during the flowering shrub will also benefit him. It is scattered under the bushes before watering. Bushes over 4 years old are fed with complex mineral fertilizers.

To make the bush bloom luxuriantly and look well-groomed, the faded branches are cut off after flowering, leaving the shoots of this year. New inflorescences will form on them next year. In the fall, remove diseased, dry and thickening branches

Anti-aging pruning is performed every three years in early spring. Remove old branches by shortening them to the ground. Several strong shoots are left to form a new bush. They are shortened to a level of 30 cm above the ground. Slices are treated with garden pitch. By the fall, a new strong bush will begin to form.
