Plant protection from pests: means of protection
With the onset of spring, not only plants wake up from hibernation, but also various pests and pathogens that can reduce all the efforts of gardeners to zero. Where severe winters prevail, most of them do not survive until spring, while in areas with a mild climate, chemical protection of plants from pests is a prerequisite for a plentiful harvest on a personal plot.
Plant protection products from pests
There is a large selection of pest control products on sale. In order not to cause damage to cultural plantings, insects that benefit, and your health, you need to understand what a particular product is intended for.
According to their intended purpose, all chemicals are divided into 3 large categories:
- insecticides – to kill insects;
- fungicides – to combat pathogens of fungal diseases;
- herbicides – for weed control.
It is important to adhere to the dosage indicated in the description of the drug, and it is categorically contraindicated to increase it. It is expressed in the amount of the drug per unit area or one plant.
Chemicals have a certain shelf life, at the end of which they become harmless to pests, but dangerous to plants. The shelf life of chemicals is no more than 2 years if stored properly. Remains of expired preparations are neutralized with a lime solution and buried away from housing.
Most chemicals are capable of causing harm not only to insects, but also to humans. During processing, the respiratory organs and exposed areas of the body should be protected. At the end, wash thoroughly with detergent and rinse your mouth.
Features of the use of plant protection products
Fruit and berry crops and grapes may be sprayed with chemicals before and after flowering, but no later than a month before and after harvesting, and raspberries, strawberries and strawberries – only before flowering and after the end of fruiting. Green vegetables grown for fresh greens must not be processed.
Spraying should be done in calm weather, when the sun goes down and insects stop flying. You should start from the top of the plant, gradually sinking towards the base.
In order not to harm the bees, it is not recommended to spray during flowering and to prevent the solution from getting on the flowers of one- and perennial crops chosen by bees, they are protected with plastic wrap during spraying. Compliance with these conditions will help reduce the negative impact of the used pesticides on the environment.
The use of chemicals is comparable to surgery, so chemical treatment must be performed when other methods do not produce the desired result.
