Levon Borage Day, aka Levon Konoplyanik, is celebrated on Friday, June 5th. The Orthodox Church on this date celebrates the uncovering of the relics of St. Leonty, Bishop of Rostov. The people called this day “borage” and “hemp” because it is considered the most suitable for planting these crops.
It was believed that cucumbers should be planted secretly from everyone – even the closest relatives, and even more so from neighbors. The first cucumber must also be buried secretly and at the same time spoken words for a rich harvest must be uttered. If this is not done, then you should not expect an abundance of vegetables, fruits and cereals – there will be nothing to collect.
