Composition and useful properties
Pistachios are high in calories and high in fatty oils, proteins and carbohydrates. As a part of 100 g of pistachios, there can be approximately 50 g of fat, 20 g of protein, 7 g of carbohydrates and 9 g of water.
These nuts contain tannin, which is used medicinally as an astringent for faster healing of burns, sores, and mouthwash for stomatitis. Tannin is also used in bowel diseases and colitis, treatment of depression and chronic fatigue, to enhance potency and strengthen immunity after infectious diseases. It is sometimes used as an antidote for poisoning with heavy metals, glycosides and alkaloids. In traditional medicine recipes, pistachios are most often given for tuberculosis, thinness or breast diseases.
The fruit of the tree contains about 3,8 mg of manganese, 500 mcg of copper, 0,5 mg of vitamin B6 and almost 10 mg of vitamin PP per 100 g of product. Pistachios are also a good source of protein, fiber, thiamine and phosphorus, which makes them especially beneficial. Pistachios also contain more antioxidants – lutein and zaxanthine, which have a positive effect on vision.
The benefits of these nuts are that they lower cholesterol levels and the risk of heart disease, they treat obesity, since their fats consist of 90% of useful components that improve metabolism and are especially beneficial for people with an active lifestyle. Some medical studies also point out that pistachios can reduce the risk of malignant tumors in the human body.
