Pimples on the tongue can be of various origins. Their appearance may be the result of an allergic reaction, poor oral and tongue hygiene, but pimples on the tongue may also suggest a serious illness. Their frequency of appearance, size and form should be controlled.
- Pimples on the tongue can appear suddenly, e.g. on the tip of the tongue, are painful and make it difficult to eat
- If they disappear as quickly as they appeared, it means they were the result of a minor bacterial infection
- Pimples on the tongue that appear in large numbers and do not go away by themselves require consultation with a general practitioner
- More information can be found on the Onet homepage.
Pimples on the tongue – causes
Pimples on the tongue can appear in both children and adults. They take the form of small balls that cause pain and hinder the patient’s daily functioning.
What are the reasons for the appearance of pustules on the tongue? Most often, pimples on the tongue are the result of an allergic reaction, e.g. to an ingredient in a meal, they appear after a minor burn, for example, they may appear after burning the tongue with a hot drink. Another reason for the appearance of pimples on the tongue may be the general weakness of the body. The lesions are active in one place on the tongue, but they can also cover it completely.
Pimples on the tongue come in different forms:
- white spots on the tongue – can be caused by Candida yeast. In most cases, tiny white balls cover the rest of the mouth in addition to the tongue, in children they are called thrush. The hallmark of thrush is an additional white coating on the mucosa. In some cases, white pustules may be accompanied by swelling and, of course, great discomfort in everyday life. Candida infections can be caused by eating unwashed fruit and vegetables, or putting dirty items in your mouth.
- red spots on the tongue – they can be caused by a cold, but also by inflammation of the salivary glands. They disappear with the end of the disease. Red pimples on the tongue appear when the body’s immunity is reduced, but also with an inappropriate, low-vitamin diet.
Other causes that trigger pimples on the tongue:
- mechanical injuries
- deficiency of B vitamins
- irritable bowel syndrome
- inflammation of the mouth
- allergic reactions
- eating spicy, spicy foods in large quantities
- diabetes
- reflux
- tinea
- deficiency of minerals such as: folic acid, iron, magnesium, zinc
Pimples on the tongue – treatment
The treatment depends on the cause of the pustules on the tongue. They disappear on their own in most cases, but if they are the result of a more serious illness, they may persist throughout the course of the illness. Then they hinder the functioning of the patient, so a solution should be found to minimize this discomfort. In the case of frequently recurring pimples, it is worth having:
- hydrogen peroxide, which has disinfecting properties
- preparations containing vitamins A, B and C.
- disinfecting preparations that are available at every pharmacy
- herbal rinses with herbs with antibacterial and antiseptic properties, for example sage, chamomile, burdock will do well
In more difficult cases, pustules on the tongue are treated with antibiotics. Constant prophylaxis is also important, i.e. frequent hand washing, using antibacterial preparations in public places.
