Ordinary edible waves, like their white variety, have a very original pattern on the hat in the form of waves diverging in all directions. The description of the fungus mushrooms is in many ways similar to the whites, only the color of their caps is pink or yellow, the leg is slightly lighter and stronger than that of white counterparts. Like many other lamellar ones, these mushrooms are not eaten in the West, but in Our Country they are extremely popular.
What do edible mushrooms look like?
The shaggy or wavy plate has many names in the common people: volnushki, volvyanki, volzhanka, volvianitsy and volnukhi – and in all its appearance it comes close to all the previous species, with which it has great affinity.
Check out the photo and description of the wave: the main difference between the shaggy plate is in the hairy, rather noticeable tufts located along the edge around the cap and sometimes quite long. In our places, this fungus is quite rare, and more often comes across in the more northern provinces of Our Country. It is attributed by many scientists to the number of poisonous, in particular it is considered as such in France and the Czech Republic. But we eat it completely harmlessly, however, in Sweden it is often collected and used without the slightest harm in food instead of camelina.
The place of growth of this fungus is certainly in forests on sandy and siliceous soil, most often under birch trees, and it is found simultaneously with the previous species.
What do volushki look like and how do they differ from other mammalian fungi? Their hat is no more than 1,5 to 10 cm wide, first convex, and then concave, but always with edges turned inward. The entire cap of this mushroom, and mainly its outskirts, are covered with thick hairs hanging from the ends, in the form of rather long cosmos, which gives the mushroom a very beautiful appearance. However, by old age, these cosmos become barely noticeable. And that description of the wave becomes similar to all other records.
The color of the cap is pale pink, sometimes shimmering white, but more often yellow or grayish. Moreover, it is almost always dotted with alternately dark and light, wide and circular stripes, which, however, does not constitute a characteristic property of the fungus, because it depends on the woody leaves falling on it, which is why such painting often occurs on other mushrooms of the same species with a shaggy plate. The flesh of the cap is of the same pale pink color, quite dense and dry.
The plates of the wave are the same color as the cap, but always somewhat paler, and the milky juice of the fungus is very sharp, yellow-white and does not change from contact with air.
The stalk is also somewhat paler in comparison to the cap and generally more or less yellowish, while dense, but mostly smooth, but sometimes, however, dotted with slight dark depressions, is rarely hollow, and reaches no more than 5 cm in height.
In taste, edible volnushki mushrooms deserve various approvals. Some find it not quite remarkable, others like it. In its raw state, it is very caustic, but when boiled, it loses this causticity, although its natural sharpness is still somewhat preserved. As for the bitterness, which is very noticeable in a raw mushroom, it almost completely disappears from cooking. The smell of both raw and boiled mushrooms is pleasant, earthy.
