Relaxation. There are different relaxation techniques, but many of them aim to reduce muscle tension and improve breathing techniques. In the treatment of phobia, these relaxation techniques can be combined with visualization techniques. Thus, the patient in a state of relaxation is invited to mentally visualize the situation arousing in him anxiety.7.

Hypnosis. The state of consciousness obtained under hypnosis is similar to a deep state of relaxation. Several studies show the effectiveness of hypnosis in the management of anxiety, in particular before dental procedures or medical care, but also in management of phobias8. Initial data suggests that the effectiveness of treatment may last for up to three years after therapy. Initial research indicates that hypnosis is similar to other techniques such as relaxation, biofeedback, or autogenic training.

Coffee. Kava (Piper methysticum) is a South Pacific island shrub that has been used for centuries for its sedative effects. Studies have shown that kava may have moderate action in treating anxiety in humans9. Preliminary data indicate that its action could approach that obtained with benzodiazepines such as diazepam (Valium ®). However, be careful with its use: kava has certain contraindications.

Acupuncture. Several studies have highlighted the effectiveness of acupuncture in treating anxiety disorders. However, these studies are widely open to criticism because of their lack of methodological rigor.
