Phlox diseases: how to treat
Phlox diseases can be both viral and fungal. Moreover, the second type of disease is quite easy to cure. Fighting viruses is much more difficult, so it makes sense to prevent such ailments.
Such diseases are transmitted from a diseased plant to a healthy one through pests such as aphids, ticks, cicada, and roundworm. Unfortunately, viral diseases cannot be cured. Therefore, at the first sign, it is necessary to remove the damaged flowers and burn them away from the site.
There are several viral diseases that can affect phlox. You can recognize them by the following symptoms:
- Variegatedness. It is characterized by the appearance of light spots on the petals of flowers, as well as the distortion of the shape of the leaves.
- Necrotic spotting. Brown spots with a diameter of 1-3 mm are formed on the foliage. As the disease progresses, the affected areas increase in size.
- Curliness of leaves. The stems of the flower are deformed, and the plant itself is reduced in size. The shape of the leaves changes, moreover, they become covered with black or yellow-green spots.
To prevent the appearance of viral diseases, it is necessary to carry out preventive measures. To do this, always check new plants as well as the soil on the site. Before planting, treat the soil and garden tools with drugs such as Carbation, Nemagon or Chloropicrin.
How to treat phlox from fungal diseases
