Phlebitis – Our doctor’s opinion
As part of its quality approach, Passeportsanté.net invites you to discover the opinion of a health professional. Dr Jacques Allard, general practitioner, gives you his opinion on the phlebitis :
Deep phlebitis is a serious illness because the clot can travel and lodge in the lung (pulmonary embolism). The problem is that this condition is not always obvious. It is therefore imperative to consult a doctor promptly if you have symptoms of deep phlebitis (calf pain and swelling, ankle edema). I also advise to be attentive to these symptoms of deep phlebitis when you think you are suffering from superficial phlebitis (red vein, hot, painful, forming a hard “cord”), because superficial phlebitis is sometimes accompanied by phlebitis. deep. Here as elsewhere, prevention is important. Avoid staying in a still position for several hours, especially on long air trips. If you suffer from venous insufficiency (varicose veins), ask your doctor if wearing compression stockings would be advisable. Dr Jacques Allard MD FCMFC |
