Phlebitis – Our doctor’s opinion

Phlebitis – Our doctor’s opinion

As part of its quality approach, Passeportsanté.net invites you to discover the opinion of a health professional. Dr Jacques Allard, general practitioner, gives you his opinion on the phlebitis :

Deep phlebitis is a serious illness because the clot can travel and lodge in the lung (pulmonary embolism). The problem is that this condition is not always obvious. It is therefore imperative to consult a doctor promptly if you have symptoms of deep phlebitis (calf pain and swelling, ankle edema).

I also advise to be attentive to these symptoms of deep phlebitis when you think you are suffering from superficial phlebitis (red vein, hot, painful, forming a hard “cord”), because superficial phlebitis is sometimes accompanied by phlebitis. deep.

Here as elsewhere, prevention is important. Avoid staying in a still position for several hours, especially on long air trips. If you suffer from venous insufficiency (varicose veins), ask your doctor if wearing compression stockings would be advisable.
