Pharyngitis: how to cure a child? Video
Pharyngitis is an inflammation of the pharyngeal mucosa, accompanied by a sore throat, hoarseness and enlargement of the submandibular and cervical lymph nodes. In children, the disease is quite difficult, but in untreated cases, it is perfectly amenable to treatment at home.
Causes and symptoms of pharyngitis
One of the most common causes of pharyngitis is a viral infection, however, the disease can appear in a child and due to:
- hypothermia
- weakening of immunity
- other infectious diseases, such as rubella, measles, tonsillitis, etc.
- severe rhinitis
- caries (especially if there are many decayed teeth in the mouth – foci of chronic infection)
- difficulty in nasal breathing due to curvature of the nasal septum or adenoids
- trauma, such as a fishbone cut in the throat
- fungal or bacterial infection
If in adults pharyngitis most often proceeds without deterioration of the general condition, children often endure the disease with a high fever, severe weakness, decreased appetite and sleep disturbance. In order to make an accurate diagnosis and prescribe the correct treatment, a child who complains of a sore throat, it is important to show the pediatrician or ENT doctor in a timely manner.
Pharyngitis treatment in children
The tactics of treating pharyngitis depends on the cause of its occurrence. A bacterial infection in a child should be fought with antibiotics, and a fungal infection with antifungal drugs. In all other cases, you can try folk remedies.
Even successfully cured pharyngitis often recurs if all the unfavorable factors contributing to its occurrence are not eliminated. It is important to treat the child’s teeth in a timely manner, protect him from the cold and strengthen the immune system
Anti-inflammatory herbs such as calendula, sage, and chamomile are effective in treating pharyngitis. For children who know how to gargle, it is better to prepare concentrated infusions (a tablespoon of dried raw materials in a glass of boiling water). Rinsing should be carried out 4-6 times a day for at least 5-7 days, even if the improvement occurred on the second or third day.
If the baby does not know how to gargle, weak decoctions from the same herbs should be offered to him for drinking. They disinfect the oral cavity, have anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects.
They should be drunk warm, 50 ml 4-5 times a day
If the child does not have an allergy to bee products, pharyngitis can be treated with honey tea (a teaspoon of honey in a glass of boiling water) or propolis. They relieve pain in the head, have an antibacterial effect and help to strengthen the immune system. Propolis should be chewed in small pieces three times a day.
