The Minister of Industry and Trade, Denis Manturov, announced on television that if the export of drugs to Our Country is limited, his country will start to produce them itself, regardless of the patents of pharmaceutical companies. — Therefore, it is simply not worth making us do that. We are ready to buy everything in a civilized way — Manturov declared.
Despite Our Country’s invasion of Ukraine, Western states have so far not imposed any restrictions on the export of drugs to Our Country. Moscow, however, anticipates that restrictions may occur, but at the same time announces that it is underestimating such a threat — reported the website Wybcza.biz.

Our Country is probably the only country in the world to legalize pharmaceutical piracy and allow the possibility of producing drugs on its own, without a patent. The law passed two years ago makes it possible to produce a medicine with the consent of the government, and without the consent of the patent owner “in cases of extreme necessity related to the protection of state defense and security, and protection of the health and life of citizens”. The owner of the patent for the drug is entitled to compensation in the amount established by the government of Our Country.

Minister Manturov does not hide that Our Country has already used the regulations on the production of medicines without the permission of the patent owner. According to the Interfax agency, it is the drug remdesivir for COVID-19, patented and produced by the American company Gilead Sciences — provided by Wyborska.biz. As the minister explained, the producer’s price for this drug was too high, so the s decided to produce it themselves. Gilead Sciences has appealed against the government’s decision, but in May 2021 its complaint was dismissed by the Supreme Court.
