Pfizer and BioNTech announced that they are starting clinical trials of a vaccine dedicated to Omikron.
Vaccine for Omikron
During the study, the effectiveness, tolerability of the preparation and the level of immune response in patients will be tested. Experts will check whether the new vaccine is suitable for the so-called a booster, i.e. a booster dose, as well as the basic preparation for vaccination.

Companies conduct research in three groups:
- the first subjects are subjects who received two doses of Comirnata at least 90 to 180 days prior to the clinical trial; will receive one or two doses of the Omikron vaccine;
- the second group included people who received three doses of the Pfizer vaccine; will receive one dose of Comirnata or one dose of a new preparation dedicated to Omikron;
- the third group included patients who did not receive any vaccine; will receive three doses of the vaccine targeting Omikron.

The development of a new preparation against the Omikron variant is a step ahead. Experts fear that existing protection may fade over time.
According to CNN, Pfizer has already started producing the new product. – Before the vaccine is implemented, we must have the results of the research and obtain approval for its introduction – said the spokesman.
At the same time, Pfizer and BioNTech ensure that people who took the third dose of the current vaccine “have a high level of protection against Omicron, especially in terms of severity and the risk of hospitalization”.
According to new research results (preprint for now), three doses of the vaccine are effective against the Omikron variant for four months after receiving the booster.
