Peyronie’s disease – symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, prognosis

Syn.: Plastic induration of the penis, fibromatosis of the penis, deviated penis.

Epid .: It occurs in men over 40 years of age.

Etiol .: Unknown. The disease is associated with Dupuytren’s contracture and other connective tissue proliferative diseases.

Clinical: Penile fibrosis concerns the whitish sheath and begins on the dorsal surface from the gastric groove. Fibrosis can affect the septum of the penis and cavernous bodies. The changes tend to spread. When you get an erection, your penis tilts to one side. There is soreness during intercourse. Impotence is psychogenic.

Hist .: Rich-cell inflammatory infiltrates in the whitish sheath, followed by fibrous nodules with myofi broblast proliferation. Outbreaks of secondary calcification or even cartilage or bone formation.

DL: Ultrasound examination and nuclear magnetic resonance, radiological examination.

Year: Pain intensity decreases over time and sclerosis symptoms improve. In some cases, there is a progression and distortion of the penis.

Healing: intralesional corticosteroids, radiotherapy, cesium or electron teletherapy.
