Vitaly Wulf: biography
Wolf is known to Russian TV viewers as the host of the program “My Silver Ball” since 1994, in which he talked about the fates of famous people. But his personal life was always hidden under seven seals and was overgrown with rumors and legends.
Millions of spectators were eagerly awaiting his program “My Silver Ball”. In this program, he was a critic, actor, art critic at the same time! He spoke very interesting and exciting about famous personalities, holding the attention of millions of people.
He was unique! Always elegant with a special charm. I liked his leisurely way of telling the story. Be sure to watch the recordings of his programs, it will give you great pleasure!
It is a pity that today he is not with us – an encyclopedic educated person who knew so much about theater and art. There are only a few such people and they are sorely lacking!
Parents
Vitaly Yakovlevich was born in Baku (Azerbaijan) on May 23, 1930. Gemini. Father – Wulf Yakov Sergeevich was a famous Baku lawyer. Mother – Elena Lvovna, Russian language teacher.
After graduating from high school, the guy dreamed of going to GITIS, but his father insisted that his son first receive a “serious” education and the parents sent their only child to Moscow, where he entered Moscow State University. Lomonosov at the Faculty of Law.
After graduating from university, he could not find a job in his specialty due to his Jewish origin. He entered graduate school four times, passing exams with only A’s, but for the same reason he was not accepted. In 1957, he nevertheless became a graduate student, worked in the legal profession. In 1961 he defended his thesis for the degree of candidate of legal sciences.
Love for theater
A natural passion for the theater determined his fate. Vitaly loved theater. Almost every day he went to the performances of the Moscow Art Theater, the Vakhtangov Theater, the Theater. Mayakovsky, to the Maly Theater. When he was a student, his aunt, secretly from his parents, sent him money to visit the theaters.
Vitaly Yakovlevich has developed friendly relations with many actors and theater directors. He has written many articles and books about the theater and theater workers, he was engaged in translations of Anglo-American drama.
Plays in his translation are performed on the stages of well-known Moscow theaters. He translated about 40 plays, most of them in collaboration with Alexander Chebotar.
In 1992, Wolfe left for the United States, where he taught at the theater department of New York University for two years. There was an opportunity to live in the USA, but he lacked Moscow theaters and friends – without this he could not imagine his life. He is back.
Very personal
“Vitaly Wolf: personal life” is a closed topic for many. In almost every program “My Silver Ball”, he spoke in detail about the personal lives of his characters. And he refused to talk about his own, citing that “personal is personal”.
Wolfe had no children, but that never bothered him. He was married once and not for long, in his youth. With a fictitious marriage, a good-natured gentleman helped one of his acquaintances escape abroad. In those years, unmarried ladies were practically prohibited from traveling abroad.
Wolfe was a rather private person, but he was not alone. His heart, as knowledgeable people assured, for a long time belonged to the famous director and ballet expert Boris Lvov-Anokhin, who died in 2000 and is buried at the Troekurovsky cemetery.
At the same cemetery, not far from Anokhin, Vitaly Wulf was buried according to his will.
All those who knew Wolfe and Anokhin personally claim that they were very responsive, exceptionally decent people, always ready to help their neighbors. And you and I, dear reader, have no right to condemn someone else’s own life!
Vitaly Yakovlevich was a completely impractical person, he never chased after money and lived rather modestly. He had a two-room apartment in the center of Moscow and a not-too-expensive 2003 Opel Corsa car. There was no dacha. The main wealth is books, paintings, manuscripts, rare documents.
Our hero loved beautiful clothes, elegance. He succeeded, he had an impeccable taste. He appreciated in people the courage to live, the ability to look good, “keep your back”, never complain, not whine, modestly and with dignity carry your cross, not trying to shift it onto other people’s shoulders. He himself lived like that and appreciated the same qualities in people.
Friends
Wolfe was very selective in his friends, he did not communicate with many people. It was more comfortable for him, but he was always ready to help anyone who needed his help.
The closest circle of contacts were:
- Oleg Efremov;
- Nikolai Tsiskaridze;
- Alexander Chebotar with his daughter Seraphima;
- Alexander Lazarev and Svetlana Nemolyaeva;
- Vlad Listyev was a very close person to him. And after his death – his wife Albina.
Disease
He learned about his terrible disease (prostate cancer) in 2002. Vitaly Yakovlevich steadfastly endured the disease, was operated on 15 times. In the last year of his life, he gave up badly, was constantly in the hospital, occasionally leaving the ward to record the next program. He knew that he would soon die. On March 13, 2011, he was gone.
“The main thing in life: human relationships, state of mind and people who love you” Vitaly Wolf.
