Personal coaching is a form of coaching that is more about building the client’s life than business.
Personal coaching takes place in the form of non-directive training aimed at supporting and developing the client. The personal coaching relationship is established and defined by agreement between the client and the coach. Their basis is the client’s expression of their interests, goals and aspirations.
In the process of personal coaching, the coach avoids doing tasks for the client. The client is responsible for their own success (or failure), the coach does not and cannot promise that the client will be able to take a certain action or achieve a certain result. The coach puts the client in the position of the Author and avoids going into psychotherapy, although elements of psychotherapy can be used if necessary.
The coach becomes for the client a resource of the «unsoothed eye», a human mirror, impartially observing and reflecting the transformation of his client. The coach does not give direct instructions to the client, but through leading questions, mirroring, gentle prompting, motivating challenge and supportive dialogue, helps the client recognize his goals in personal life, business and relationships, develop plans and strategies leading to their achievement and implement them. Supporting the client in the implementation of plans, the coach contributes to the client’s awareness in his life or activity, his awareness of personal responsibility for his life. In the course of joint work, plans are “customized” in such a way as to best meet both the needs of the client and the conditions of his social environment.
Very close to personal coaching is counseling aimed at finding a solution.
