Persimmon tomato: description
As a result of the painstaking work of amateur breeders in 2009, this orange miracle was born – the Persimmon tomato. For a short period of time, the variety has become popular among owners of personal plots. The taste of tomato fruits really resembles this southern fruit – they are just as fragrant, sweet and juicy.
Description and characteristics of the tomato “Persimmon”
The tomato is a mid-season hybrid of the determinant type. The shape of the fruit is round, slightly flattened at the top. The color is bright orange, the pulp is juicy and fleshy. Another characteristic feature is the very small seeds. You can see a photo of the “Persimmon” tomato below.
The variety has the following characteristics:
- the stem of the plant is powerful, on the open ground the height of the bush reaches 80 cm, and in the greenhouse the culture grows above 1,2 m;
- the weight of the ripe fruit is from 0,2 to 0,5 kg, some gardeners in greenhouses managed to grow fruits up to 0,7 kg;
- yield – from 3 to 4 kg per bush;
- the average ripening period is 110-120 days;
- keeping quality of the variety is good, provided that it is harvested before full maturity.
The high content of carotene and other useful microelements makes tomato an excellent dietary product. The “Persimmon” variety is suitable for canning and other homemade preparations.
Features of growing tomato “Persimmon”
Since the ripening period of the tomato is quite long, it is recommended to grow in seedlings. Planting seeds for seedlings should begin in March. The soil for planting tomatoes can be purchased at the store, but it is allowed to use land from your own garden.
The procedure for growing seedlings is as follows:
- Be sure to cover the boxes with sown seeds with foil to create greenhouse conditions.
- The most favorable temperature for germination is + 23 ° C, do not allow temperature changes.
- Provide additional lighting.
- Remove the airing film from the drawers periodically and keep the humidity level high.
- When germinating 2 true leaves, make a pick of the seedlings – plant them in separate pots.
In order for the seedlings to become more hardy, they must be periodically taken out into the open air. In the process of growing tomatoes, it is necessary to carry out pinching so that the bushes do not become too thick. And you should also tie up the grown plants to the supports, then they will not break under their own weight.
As a result of constant care and maintenance of plants, a wonderful and healthy harvest will grow. And if you properly prepare the place for storing it, then in winter, a bright reminder of summer will flaunt on your table.
