More and more summer residents and owners of country houses begin to grow not only fruits and vegetables, but also decorate their land with flowers. Translated into German, such a flower bed is called “rabatka”. On the one hand, there is nothing easier than planting beautiful flowers next to each other. But on the other hand, instead of a blooming area, bunches of beautiful vegetation are often obtained, mixed with withering bushes.
Perennial rabatki are divided into 5 types according to the design method. To make the composition beautiful and complete, you need to decide which of the types is more suitable.
With proper care and selection of plants, the rabat can become a spectacular garden decoration.
There are one-sided, two-sided, intermittent, symmetrical and asymmetrical.
- One-sided is more often used to decorate walls or a fence. In this case, tall plants are located at the back, gradually moving to undersized ones. You can make lines both smooth and sharp.
- Double-sided is more often used for framing tracks. For this, plants of the same height are selected. In this case, a monochrome flower bed will look more impressive.
- Asymmetric are a composition in which tall flowers can be planted in the center, and shorter ones at the edges.
- Symmetrical ones have clear borders and a rectangular shape. In this case, the width remains the same along the entire length.
- The intermittent ones are of great length and are divided into separate parts by tall perennials.
When choosing a place for such a flower garden, you need to pay attention to such components as:
- illumination;
- site relief;
- the soil;
- access to plants to care for them.
If perennials are actively growing and are able to occupy a larger area than necessary, it is necessary to limit their growth by digging iron or plastic restraints into the soil around them.
Selection of plants for the rabat
After the place and type of flowerbed have been selected and prepared, you need to start selecting plants for the bed. It is better to draw a diagram on a piece of paper and then follow it. This will help you see the end result better.
The very first to bloom are small-bulbous. These include muscari, daffodils, lilies of the valley, chionodox, poultry farms, crocuses. They are more suitable for such beds as there is no need to dig them out every year for storage. You need to plant a large number of bulbs at a distance of 10 cm from each other
Then daisies, violets, sleep-grass and primroses begin to bloom. They also need to be planted in large numbers.
Later, peonies, irises, lilies bloom. For the background, tall delphiniums and lupins are suitable. The composition can be supplemented with herbs such as tansy, yarrow, sage.
At the end of summer, lilies, sunflowers, chrysanthemums, saintbrinks, phloxes will bloom.
To hide the dried stems of spring flowers, you can plant summer plant species with large leaves or bushy plants, such as peonies or hosts.
For variety and herbs, you can use cochia, as well as spices such as thyme, parsley, mint, oregano.
In order for flowering to please for several years, while without much effort, you must initially correctly approach the formation of such a flower garden. And then you can enjoy the flowering of the flower bed, watching the change of seasons.
