Perception is the mental process of forming the image of objects and phenomena of the external world.

Unlike sensations, which reflect only individual properties and qualities of objects, perception is holistic and objective. A little metaphorically, we can say that perception is a folded thinking. Sometimes perception is called not a process, but the result of this process — the very image of an object or phenomenon.

An image, a picture of a situation is created on the basis of primary sensations, with the application of knowledge, expectations, desires, moods and fantasies.

Perception is primary and secondary, arbitrary (managed) and not, personal and social. There are many other distinctions that characterize the process of perception: subjectivity of perception, modalities of perception (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, digital), etc. See →

You can control your perception. Does it need to be done every second? Hardly. But in difficult and conflict situations, it is useful to remember this.

Perceptions are many and very changeable. If you have one knowledge, and your friend, colleague, partner is different, then you will look at the world with different eyes. Therefore, even if something seems obvious to you — say it, there will be less disputes. But they didn’t say who is to blame?

Perception is related to emotional response, and influences go both ways: just as your emotions determine your perception, the way you perceive largely determines your emotions. What perception you make for yourself, from what position of perception you look — such an emotion will be for you.

In the development of perception, the role of the innate is enormous: from birth, a child already knows a lot about the world. At the same time, the further development of perception is not a calm unfolding of what is already laid down from the inside, and not the formation of a new one from the outside. This is primarily the result of the child’s own activity. How much I have been active, so much I have developed. However, adults may well contribute to the development of the child’s activity.
