People at risk and risk factors for sunstroke (Heat stroke)

People at risk

Anyone can suffer from sunstroke, but the people most affected are the youngest and the oldest. At the extreme ages of life, the central nervous system manages temperature variations less well than in adulthood. In addition, babies become dehydrated more quickly and older people are less aware of the bodily sensations of thirst and heat. Finally, athletes who do not properly prepare for their competitions have an increased risk of heat stroke, especially if they take stimulants and / or if they wear waterproof clothing that does not properly dissipate heat.

Risk factors

Certain medications can increase the risk of sunstroke. Thus, vasoconstrictors, by reducing the diameter of the blood vessels, or drugs taken in case of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are affected by this effect.
