People at risk

  • Men ;
  • People who suffer from excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis);
  • People with diabetes;
  • People with atopic eczema;
  • People with weakened immune systems who have a harder time fighting infections: diabetics, carriers of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), people with chronic or severe illnesses, such as cancer.

Risk factors

  •  Wearing shoes too tight, or plastic or vinyl shoes, which create a humid environment;
  • foot hygiene inadequate;
  • The fact of walk barefoot on the often wet floors of fitness centers, locker rooms, swimming pools or communal showers.
