Peonies in October: is it possible to transplant
Peonies: can you transplant in October
Before starting a transplant, you need to choose a suitable place for the plant. It loves a bright area protected from wind and drafts. Lack of sun can inhibit flowering.
He is also afraid of overheating, which can be screened by high fences and buildings. He does not like stagnant water – his roots begin to rot, so good drainage is needed. It should be planted in a tall flower bed if the groundwater is close.
Root digging process:
- Cut off completely the part of the bush that is above the ground.
- Water the soil liberally.
- Dig around the bush and carefully remove it from the hole with a pitchfork.
- Place the rhizomes in the shade for a few hours to keep them less fragile.
- After shaking off the ground, carefully divide it into parts.
- Treat the damage with a weak solution of potassium permanganate.
- For planting, select light young roots with adventitious buds.
In a previously prepared hole, you need to put the roots and sprinkle them. If the earth is heavy, then from the adventitious buds by 4-5 cm, light – about 7 cm.
Peonies transplanted in autumn will delight you with lush abundant flowering in a year. Spring transplanting will not be as effective as the root will not have time to form well due to the rapid growth and flowering. He will gain strength only next fall.
