Pentaxim is a combination vaccine against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, poliomyelitis and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) infections.

The composition of the vaccine

Pentaxim it contains the Hib polysaccharide antigen (10 µg) fused to a carrier protein which is a tetanus toxoid (18-30 µg). This vaccine does not contain the HBs antigen at all, i.e. the surface protein of the hepatitis B virus, so in children vaccinated Pentaxime hepatitis B vaccine must be given separately.

Indications

Preparat Pentaxim is a combined vaccine against diphtheria, tetanus, poliomyelitis, Hib infections and hepatitis B. Contains Hib polysaccharide antigen (in the same amount of 10 µg) combined with tetanus toxoid as a carrier protein (in the amount of 25 µg). The aim of vaccination is to prevent diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough and poliomyelitis, as well as infections caused by Haemophilus influenzae type b.

Contraindications contained in the leaflet

The main contraindications are: hypersensitivity to the components of the vaccine or to pertussis vaccines (acellular or whole-cellular), a life-threatening reaction after previous administration of a vaccine or a vaccine containing the same substances, hypersensitivity to excipients or residues from the manufacturing process (glutaraldehyde, neomycin, streptomycin and polymyxin) B). Progressive encephalopathy is also a contraindication. Encephalopathy that occurred within 7 days of a previous dose of any pertussis antigens (acellular or whole cell) vaccine. The last contraindication is diseases with fever or acute infection (vaccination should be postponed).

Dosage

Do not administer intravascularly or intradermally. Intramuscularly (in the anterolateral part of the thigh). Primary vaccination: 3 doses of 0,5 ml administered at 1-2 month intervals. Supplementary vaccination: 1 dose of 0,5 ml administered one year after the third dose of the primary vaccination, usually between 16-18 months of age. Vaccination is performed by qualified medical personnel. Possible side effects is pain, erythema at the vaccination site. There are also frequent fever, irritability, lethargy, sleep disturbances, decreased appetite, diarrhea and vomiting.
