Pentasa is a suppository preparation used to treat inflammatory diseases of the digestive system. Learn the detailed action, composition, indications and contraindications for the use of Pentasa suppositories.
Pentasa – action
Pentasa is an anti-inflammatory drug in the form of suppositories. It is used in the treatment of diseases of the digestive system. The active substance of the preparation is aminosalicylic acid, i.e. mesalazine. It is a derivative of salicylic acid. It is recommended especially in inflammatory bowel diseases.
The development of inflammation depends on prostaglandins and leukotrienes. Mesalazine inhibits enzymes that are involved in the synthesis of prostaglandin and leukotrienes. The active substance also plays an important role in the process of reducing the development of other inflammatory mediators, as well as inhibiting the development and negative influence of free radicals on the body.
The drug crosses the placenta and passes through the mother’s milk. Therefore, it should not be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
