There are two basic disorders that affect male reproductive organs. These include diseases of the penis and testicles. They can not only affect a man’s fertility, but also their sex life. It is extremely important to detect the symptoms of penis diseases early, which allows for appropriate treatment and avoiding the negative impact of these diseases on a man’s sexual performance and fertility.
Diseases of the penis — priapism
The most common disease of the penis is ischemic priapism. It’s a persistent, fully rigid and a very painful erection. It can last from several hours to several days. Erection is not related to sexual activity here. Her orgasm does not ease her either. This happens when the blood enters the penis but is not drained away.
To typical causes of priapism we can include:
- alcohol or drug abuse (especially cocaine),
- certain medications, including antidepressants and blood pressure medications
- spinal cord problems
- genital injuries,
- anesthesia,
- injection in the penis (treatment of erectile dysfunction)
- blood diseases including leukemia and sickle cell anemia.

Penis diseases – phimosis
Phimosis is the inability to withdraw the foreskin closer to the glans. The causes of phimosis include infection, poor hygiene, and trauma. They lead to scarring and fibrosis of the foreskin. Not infrequently phimosis can result in urinary retention due to blockage of the opening of the urethra.
Phimosis is common in babies because the foreskin is still tight. In most cases, this problem clears up over time. If not, appropriate treatment should be instituted. It usually involves the use of steroid creams.

Penis diseases – paraphimosis
Paraphimosis is the inability to return a retracted foreskin to its original, anatomical position. It usually occurs as an iatrogenic complication, for example following examination of the glans or placement of a Foley catheter in a weakened patient.
The retracted foreskin acts as a tourniquet, limiting the venous outflow from the glans penis. Ultimately, it leads to local swelling, inflammation, ischemia and necrosis of the tissue involved.
Penis Diseases – Peyronie’s Disease
Peyronie’s disease is a condition in which connective tissue plaques form under the skin of the penis causing it to bend and pain during an erection or sex. Although the specific cause of Peyronie’s disease is unknown, minor injuries can cause scarring to form within the cells of the hard layer of connective tissue beneath the skin of your penis.
There are several treatment options for Peyronie’s disease – these are the most common:
- oral medications
- injections directly into the penis,
- surgery (used in the most advanced stages of Peyronie’s disease).

Penis diseases – inflammation of the glans

- penile pain

- intensely smelling discharge from the penis.

If an infection is the cause of balanitis, your doctor will prescribe an antibiotic or antifungal drugsthat will help you deal with ailments quickly.
