Pelargonium: reproduction by cuttings
Preparing for propagation of pelargonium by cuttings
Reproduction and care of cuttings of pelargonium
For growing a plant, ordinary universal soil is suitable. But you can use any loose soil with neutral acidity. Perlite, coconut flakes, sphagnum are suitable. You can mix them at your discretion – there will be no harm from this.
You will also need small plastic cups or any other container. Disinfect the makeshift pots and make a few holes in them before planting. You need to root the cuttings in this way:
- Pour soil into the container and slightly moisten it.
- Use a pencil to poke holes in the soil almost to the bottom of the glass.
- Place the stalk carefully.
- Place the glass on a tray filled with water.
It is not necessary to cover the plants with a film, because the soil moisture will pass through the bottom of the containers. And in this case, condensation will only harm the seedlings.
The first time it is better to hold the cuttings in the shade. This will give them the opportunity to adapt. When the leaves begin to rise, you can move the pallet to a sunny place. Watering the seedlings is necessary as the soil dries. At the same time, try to humidify by pouring water into the pan.
