Peeling time: what is important to know about this procedure?

Peeling is a procedure loved by many, the essence of which is to exfoliate dead cells of the upper layer of the skin. The best time for her is late autumn and winter, because it is during this period that the sun is the least active and does not harm the skin. What other details do you need to know?

How does peeling work?

Our skin is a living organ made up of several layers. Her cells are constantly updated, but over time, regeneration slows down. The uppermost layer – from keratinized cells – thickens, and because of this, the skin looks dull, tired, loses its elasticity. Peeling removes this upper keratinized layer of the skin, renewing it.

What methods of skin exfoliation are used today?

  • Chemical (acid) peels
  • Enzyme peels
  • Mechanical (belongings, brushes, sponges) exfoliation

Chemical peels

With the onset of autumn, you can safely include acid (they are also chemical) peels in your care. The best time for such procedures is the period from October to March (for the climate of central Russia).

A chemical peel is a minor, controlled skin burn. Thanks to him, our brain receives a signal for cell regeneration, and after the first procedure, the skin looks renewed and radiant.

Acid peels have different compositions and intensity of exposure. Beauty salons usually offer superficial and median peels. The task of a specialist is to choose the right acid, its concentration and pH.

Uncontrolled or improper use of acid peels leads to a disruption of the microbiome, aggravation of old skin problems and the appearance of new ones.

An important nuance: before the acid peeling procedure, you can not sunbathe for two weeks. If you are planning a trip to the southern regions, at least a month should pass from the moment of the last procedure. And do not forget about contraindications! Consult with a specialist so as not to harm the skin.

Enzyme peeling

Enzymes are fruit extracts on the basis of which peeling products are produced. They are available in several variations. Most often it is a gel or powder diluted with water, tonic or a special activator.

Enzyme peels will appeal to those who do not want to wait for the cold season – they can be done independently and all year round. In this regard, they are ideal for residents of the southern regions. In addition, they are not contraindicated for pregnant women.

Enzymes work well in heat. After applying the product, you can cover your face with a warm towel. It is better to complete the procedure with a soothing or moisturizing mask. In combination with peeling, it will be especially effective. After deep cleansing, the beneficial components of the mask penetrate deeper into the skin, and the mask works at 200%.

However, it is important to remember: you need to do an enzyme peel once a week, not more often.

If you have not used enzyme peels before, do an allergy test before the first use. Apply a little behind the ear and wait 15 minutes. Then wash it off and observe the reaction of the skin. If there is no redness and itching, you can safely use it. Contraindications: herpes and open wounds on the skin.

The time of the first procedure should not exceed two to four minutes. The second time you can increase it to five minutes, and further extend it to seven, but no more! And do not forget to cleanse your face with a cleanser and wipe with a tonic before peeling.

A slight tingling or tingling after the procedure is a normal reaction. It can last from a quarter of an hour to several hours, depending on the sensitivity of the skin.

Mechanical exfoliation

To exfoliate the stratum corneum, scrubs with artificial and natural particles (based on ground coffee, nuts, seeds, grains, salt), various brushes and gommage are often used (unlike a scrub, it does not contain solid particles).

Such methods severely injure the skin, lead to its sensitivity and increase the rash, spreading the purulent contents of pimples all over the face. In addition, the particles of natural scrubs have uneven, sharp edges, which create micro-wounds and provoke irritation. Owners of sensitive and problematic skin, such types of exfoliation are categorically contraindicated.

Peeling is an effective and affordable method of preserving youth and beauty. If you choose the right tool, you will definitely be satisfied. But remember that the temptation to do without the help of a beautician often turns into severe burns, irritation and other problems that only worsen the situation. Only professional and individual selection of peeling will give the expected result.
