Peeling skin on the elbows: what to do. Video
Often, when caring for their hands, women are limited to only one manicure and applying a nourishing cream to the skin of their palms and hands. However, there are other sensitive places on the hands – the elbows. In the absence of proper care, the skin on them begins to peel off, and sometimes even become covered with painful cracks.
Why do elbows flake and turn black
Peeling elbows are often perceived as something that does not require close attention. The reason is simple: this part of the hands, as a rule, is hidden under outerwear, and therefore cosmetic defects are not conspicuous to others. And yet, the problem cannot be ignored, because sometimes peeling of the skin on the elbows can indicate the presence of a serious disease.
The most common causes of peeling elbows include:
- avitaminosis
- increased air dryness
- hormonal disorders in the body
- psoriasis
- eczema
- dermatitis
In most cases, peeling elbows do not cause serious discomfort and are really only a cosmetic problem, however, if this symptom is combined with discoloration of the skin (for example, blackening of the elbow), the appearance of painful bleeding cracks, or hair growth, which should not normally be present in this area, it makes sense to consult a doctor so that he diagnoses and prescribes competent treatment.
When peeling elbows, you should first consult a dermatologist. If he excludes problems “in his own part”, the endocrinologist will need to continue the examination
How to get rid of flaky skin
If the cause of skin peeling is an endocrine or dermatological disease, you should first of all treat them, and only then get rid of the consequences by competent daily or at least weekly elbow care, as well as with the help of all kinds of masks. If medical reasons are ruled out, the problem can be corrected with home remedies.
First of all, you should pay attention to competent elbow care. First you have to remove the dead skin layers. This can be done in several ways. The easiest way is to rub your elbows with lemon or potato juice before going to the shower, and after 10 minutes, wash them thoroughly using soap and a hard washcloth. You can also make an elbow scrub. Rub the coffee grounds mixed with sour cream in equal proportions into the skin, and after 15 minutes, wash off the composition with warm water.
After removing the dead skin, the elbows will need to be softened with a nourishing cream that contains vitamins A and E. Alternatively, you can use home remedies such as olive, sunflower or linseed oil. Having liberally lubricated the skin of the elbows with them, you will need to apply a bandage of dense fabric and polyethylene on top. Keep the compress on your elbows for at least an hour.
In most cases, these activities are enough to get the elbows smooth again. But if after the first set of procedures the improvement is insignificant, they should be repeated, and preferably not once, but 5-7 times
With peeling caused by vitamin deficiency, nourishing masks prepared on the basis of natural ingredients will help. Warm honey with a few drops of aloe or calendula juice has an excellent effect. The composition should be applied to previously washed and steamed elbows for 10-15 minutes, then rinsed with warm water or herbal decoction.
A sour milk mask will also help to eliminate peeling. You can prepare it by mixing a tablespoon of sour cream with two drops of grapefruit or orange essential oil and egg yolk. Apply the composition to the elbows in a thick layer. Rinse off – after 15-20 minutes with running water at room temperature.
An apricot mask will also help soften the skin on the elbows and get rid of flaking of the skin. After removing the seeds from five ripe apricots, grind the pulp with a meat grinder and add a tablespoon of olive oil to the resulting mass. Before applying to the elbows, this composition must be heated to a temperature of 37-38 ° C. Such a mask has a non-uniform consistency, and therefore it will need to be fixed on the elbows with a bandage and polyethylene. After half an hour, the mask should be removed. If necessary, the procedure can be carried out daily for a week or even two.
Additional treatments for scaly elbows
When peeling appears, soda baths will be useful. You can make them by adding 2 tablespoons of baking soda to four glasses of warm water. After stirring the liquid until the powder is completely dissolved, pour it into a basin and immerse your elbows in it for 15-20 minutes. The procedure should be repeated daily until the desired effect is achieved.
You can use potato broth as an alternative to a soda bath. It also softens the skin well and helps to cope with flaking.
Even when the skin on the elbows has become tender and soft again, you should not give up the care procedures. To consolidate the effect, you need to lubricate the skin on the elbows daily with cosmetic milk or fat cream and apply a nourishing mask 1-2 times a week.
