Any visible or felt changes in the appearance of your genitals can be cause for concern. However, pimples, lumps, discharge, changes in the color, shape, texture of the skin or mucosa of the penis or labia are not always a symptom of disease or infection. Some may arise independently of external factors and simply be a product of the organism. One of such harmless changes are pearly papules.

What are pearly lumps?

Pearly papules, called pearly penile papules (pearly penile papules, hirsutoid papillomas of the penis, Latin papillomatosis coronae penis, PPP) are quite common – even in 10-12% of the male population. They often appear between the ages of 20 and 30, but they also occur in younger men and in adulthood, even after the age of 50. The pearly lumps are usually less than 1 mm in diameter, white, flesh-colored or pearly in shape – hence their name. To the touch, pearly lumps resemble small grains, porridge, they are delicate.

Pearly papules appear on the crown of the penis and in the gut groove, i.e. a delicate cavity between the glans and the shaft of the penis. It is into the gully groove that the foreskin slides down, exposing the glans. Exact is not known the cause of the formation of pearly lumps. It is suspected that it is simply a physiological formation of the penile epithelium. Pearly papules are not a symptom of venereal diseases, neoplastic changes, infections and it is not possible to contract them through sexual contact.

Pearly papules may enlarge during an erection. They do not cause changes in the smell of intimate areas, although in places of their occurrence, more mastica may accumulate, white discharge accumulating under the foreskin, but proper hygiene – preferably with the use of intimate hygiene fluids with an appropriate pH reaction – allows you to keep the intimate parts fresh and clean.

Note:

The pearly lumps should not be rubbed or scraped. This can irritate the skin and mucous membranes, and the pearly lumps will not disappear like the skin lesions caused by clogged pores on the face. These are a different kind of changes that require different methods if you want to remove them.

Removal of pearly lumps

Although pearly papules are not related to diseases, in many people they can cause discomfort, complexes and the desire to remove this defect – mainly aesthetic. Pharmacological agents for “treating” pearly papules are available in pharmacies, but their effectiveness is at least questionable.

Pearly papules may disappear spontaneously, however, there are methods of removing them with the use of aesthetic dermatology.

There are several ways to remove pearly lumps. Treatments differ in the method of performance, price and indications. After the diagnosis of pearly papules by a specialist, the best form of defect removal is selected.

The simplest and most effective at the same time method of removing pearly lumps is a CO2 laser therapy. CO2 laser treatment allows you to remove lesions pointwise, with a thin laser beam. As a result, the procedure is minimally invasive, does not damage healthy tissue around the removed lesions, and minimizes the risk of scarring. The CO2 laser treatment is performed under local anesthesia, with a special ointment applied to the skin about 20 minutes before the procedure. After the treatment, there is only a slight swelling and scabs at the site of lump removal, which disappear within a week.

Another method of removing pearly lumps is cryotherapy, which consists in freezing skin lesions with liquid nitrogen and exfoliating the epidermis. Pearlescent lumps can also be burned out of the skin with an electric current. This kind of treatment is called electrodesication.

Removal of pearly papules can also be performed by surgical excision of the lesions, but such a procedure involves greater interference in the continuity of the tissue, suturing wounds and a longer recovery and normal functioning.

Po removal of pearly lumps you should abstain from sex for the time necessary to heal a surgical wound or scabs left over from laser therapy, cryotherapy or electrodesication.
