Pear Forest beauty: variety description
The Forest Beauty pear is one of the most popular varieties of fruit that has won the love of summer residents with its amazing taste. The variety originated from Belgium and has a second name “Flemish”. Let’s talk about the distinctive features of the species and how to grow a tree on your own.
Description of the pear variety “Forest Beauty”
“Forest Beauty” is considered a summer dessert variety and pleases with the harvest in the last weeks of summer. It tolerates a cold climate quite steadily, if not to talk about Siberian frosts, due to which the plant is in great demand in many regions of our country. Most prolific in the southern regions or in cases where the tree is additionally insulated.
Distinctive features:
- The culture is notable for its low growth up to 5 meters, the crown density is average, resembling a pyramid in shape.
- The leaf shape is oblong, with a slightly pointed tip. The color is juicy green.
- During the flowering period, it releases small buds of a metallic shade, which eventually turn into small pink flowers. The tree grows flowers during the period when the spring frost begins to subside, usually in April.
At the end of August, the fruits of the Forest Beauty pear ripen on the branches, resembling an egg in the photo, the average weight of one specimen is 100-150 g. The surface of the pear is rough, the peel is dense, but rather thin. The color of the fruit varies from yellow-green to red-ruddy, the latter when the fruit is fully ripe. Inside are small seed chambers and brown teardrop-shaped seeds.
The pulp is a little loose, light in color, famous for its sweet taste and juicy tenderness.
The fruits are rich in useful elements and low in calories, and the crop yield is above average – all this makes the variety in demand in horticulture.
In order to grow pear trees on their own, summer residents use seedlings, which are best placed in the ground in the fall. During this time of year, the soil is naturally moistened and the plant has time to settle down and take root before flowering.
Let’s consider the main stages:
- First of all, it is important to choose high-quality planting material. Gardeners prefer to plant the Flemish variety on quince, then the tree begins to bear fruit earlier.
- Trees that have reached the age of three are considered ideal specimens.
- It is important to plant the variety in moist, loose soil, the area should be well lit. Trees are not replanted.
- Before planting, pits 100 cm deep are necessarily prepared, the bottom of which is fertilized with sand, compost, lime solution and potassium sulfate. After fertilization, it takes 10-14 days for the fertilizer to overflow, only after that you can move the tree to its permanent place of residence.
- The seedling is soaked in water with roots and after 3 hours is placed in the pit. The trunk is covered with earth and tied to an additional support.
- The plant is watered with plenty of cool water.
Pruning is carried out immediately after planting.
Next, you need to take care of the fruit as required by all other crops: do not forget to water, get rid of weeds, fertilize and loosen the ground.
If you strictly follow each stage of pear cultivation, your efforts will be rewarded with a good harvest.
