Pear Bere: description
Pear “Bera” has a number of names – “Bera”, “Bera”, “Oily”. This variety belongs to a special type of fruit: the pulp of the fruit simply melts in your mouth like delicate butter. The homeland of the pear is France, but some species of the variety are successfully grown in Russia. Unfortunately, this can only be done in the southern regions, since the tree is very sensitive to cold.
General characteristics of pear “Bere”, photo
The general varietal characteristics of the Bere family include the vigorous growth of trees, as well as the outline of the crown in the form of a pyramid. With age, the shape of the tree crown becomes asymmetrical. The branches and trunk of the tree are quite powerful, the bark has a gray tint. The leaves are rather large, ovoid.
For Bere trees, the most favorable soil is neutral acidity. Having a good drainage system plays a big role in the formation of a good harvest. High humidity negatively affects the growth of the tree and the quality of the fruit.
The Bere variety begins to bloom in late spring, due to which return frosts cannot damage the fruit ovaries. The tree gives the first harvest only in the 6th year of growth. The fruits are elongated, the color may vary depending on the type of pear. The undoubted advantage is good keeping quality of fruits and safety during transportation.
Brief description of the varieties of pears “Bere”
The Bere family is quite numerous and represented by a wide variety of species. But they are all united by a great taste with notes of almonds and juicy tender pulp. Let’s get acquainted with the most common representatives of this unique variety:
- “Winter Michurina” is the result of the work of domestic breeders. The pear was bred by the method of pollination of the pear variety with the Ussuri pollen “Bere Royal”. The yield is high, but due to the average frost resistance it is recommended for cultivation only in the regions of the Chernozem region.
- “Bere Luka” is a high-yielding species. The fruits have the most delicate aroma. A distinctive feature is high resistance to scab disease and the possibility of long-term storage and transportation.
- “Russkaya” ripens in November, the fruits of the tree are golden-reddish in color. The taste of the pulp is sweet and sour. Disease resistance is high. It is most successfully grown in the south of the Voronezh region.
Over time, more and more new species of this unique variety appear. Russian gardeners have grown fond of the Bere variety for its taste and ability to be stored during the winter period. It is so nice to breathe in the aroma of warm summer on a cold winter evening and enjoy its honey taste.
