Peanuts that do not cause allergies

Peanuts with a lower allergen content would avoid many allergy problems, reports BBC News / Health.

The peanuts were grown by the team of prof. Soheili Maleki without the use of genetic manipulation, thanks to the appropriate crossing of various varieties. They have a reduced level of allergenic proteins, and some allergens have been completely eliminated.

People allergic to peanuts often develop respiratory problems and, in severe cases, life-threatening anaphylactic shock. That is why many products have warning inscriptions – May contain peanuts. Hypoallergenic peanuts would be safer for those who are already allergic, and in the case of young children, they would prevent allergies. For now, however, it is not known how long their properties will prove to be during typical cultivation. They should hit the market within two to five years. (PAP)
