Like all fruit and berry crops, peaches are classified according to their ripening dates. Early and mid-season varieties ripen in July – August and are excellent for growing in central Russia.

Early varieties of peaches begin to bear fruit 3 months after flowering.

These include the following varieties:

  • “Kievskiy early” is a variety with a high and stable yield. It has an average resistance to diseases and lower temperatures – up to -28 C. The average weight of one fruit is 80-90 g. The pulp has a sweet and sour taste and delicate aroma.
  • Greensboro is an early variety that is less frost-resistant. Able to withstand frosts down to -20 C. The shape of the fruit is oval, the average weight is 120 g. The pulp is juicy and has a greenish tint. The variety is suitable for fresh consumption.
  • Sibiryak is a medium-ripening variety. Begins to bear fruit in the 3rd year of growth. Peaches grow up to 135 g in weight. Productivity of the variety is stable, frost resistance is average.
  • “Saturn” is a mid-season variety with good frost resistance – up to -27 C. The fruits have a rounded, slightly flattened shape. The mass of one peach can be more than 100 g. The pulp has a sweet taste and juiciness. The variety is suitable for canning for the winter.

Unlike late varieties, you can enjoy the tender pulp of the fruit already in late July – early August.

The best of late peach varieties

These varieties are intended for cultivation in the southern regions. Their ripening period falls on the end of August – beginning of October. They are characterized by lower winter hardiness and some deterioration in taste. But at the same time they have a greater keeping quality and are suitable for canning.

Late varieties include:

  • The Elberta variety has been very popular among gardeners for many decades. Possesses excellent frost-resistant qualities, disease resistant. Fruits grow up to 150 g. The appearance of peaches is very attractive. It tolerates transportation well.
  • “Frost” – fruits ripen in early September. The variety is highly resistant to frost and fungal diseases. The average weight of one ripe peach is 180-200 g. The pulp is juicy, orange in color, has a sweet taste and delicate aroma.
  • Jaminat is a fast-growing variety. The weight of a peach can reach 160 g. The taste of the pulp is sweet, with a slight sourness. It tolerates winter frosts well, and is resistant to diseases.
