The second type of diabetes is considered a civilization disease. In Poland, 3 million people suffer from it, although this number is certainly much higher, and many people live with undiagnosed diabetes for years, which can lead to serious health complications. If you observe them at home – be sure to see a doctor.

  1. The most common symptoms of type 2 diabetes are excessive thirst and frequent urination
  2. However, few people know that diabetes is visible on the skin, and a symptom of it may also be a problem with eyesight and hearing
  3. It is worth checking your blood sugar regularly – this is the most accurate diagnosis of diabetes. However, it is also good to know the symptoms that may suggest this disease

Frequent urination

When the kidneys are unable to keep up with the excessive amount of glucose being filtered out, they allow the sugars to enter the urine. The body tries to get rid of them as soon as possible. This means that the diabetic has to urinate frequently, also at night.

Increased thirst

Another common early symptom of diabetes is extreme thirst. It is associated with high blood sugar levels and is made worse by frequent urination. Often, drinking does not satisfy the thirst.

Increased appetite

The high sugar level is responsible for the “hunger”. The body uses blood glucose to nourish cells. When this system is damaged, the cells cannot absorb the glucose. As a result, the body is constantly looking for more fuel, causing persistent hunger.

Neuralgia or numbness

In the second type of diabetes, you may experience tingling or numbness in the hands, fingers, feet and feet. This is a sign of nerve damage or diabetic neuropathy. This condition usually develops slowly. People who have been struggling with diabetes for years experience this, but for some it may be the first sign.

Badly healing wounds

There are several reasons why wounds heal more slowly. Over time, high blood sugar constricts the blood vessels, slowing blood circulation and limiting the access of needed nutrients and oxygen to the wounds. Long-term high blood sugar also damages the immune system, so the body has a harder time fighting infection.

Blurred vision

Blurred vision usually occurs early in uncontrolled diabetes. This could be the result of a sudden high blood sugar level affecting the tiny blood vessels in the eyes, causing fluid to seep into the lens of the eye. The blurring usually goes away. Still, see an ophthalmologist immediately.

Marks and thickenings on the skin

Dark, velvety discoloration in the folds of the skin is another early warning sign of type 2 diabetes. It is most common in the armpits, neck, and groin. The skin in the affected area also becomes thickened. This is due to excess insulin in the blood. This is common in people with type XNUMX diabetes because insulin resistance is its main precursor.

Susceptibility to diseases

Anyone can get a bacterial, fungal, or yeast infection, but people with type 2 diabetes tend to get them more often. When blood sugar levels are too high for the kidneys to filter well, sugar goes into the urine. This can cause urinary tract infections as well as yeast infections. Gum and skin infections are also common.

Itchy skin

Itchy skin is often caused by diabetes and is sometimes one of the first symptoms. This can be due to a variety of conditions associated with diabetes, including yeast or fungal infection, as well as poor circulation, often found in the shins.

Dry mouth

Dry mouth is one of the most common symptoms of diabetes in the mouth. Doctors don’t know exactly why this is happening. They believe it is related to high blood sugar and hyperglycemia.

Fatigue quickly

Fatigue is one of the hallmarks of diabetes. This is sometimes called diabetic fatigue syndrome. Researchers do not know exactly why this is happening. Many tests have been carried out, but none have shown a clear causal link. The most common explanation is that fatigue is caused by fluctuations in blood glucose levels that are not supplying enough glucose.

Weight loss

If you are losing weight without trying, it could be a warning sign of diabetes. It can also be a sign of other conditions, so be sure to check with your doctor and get your tests done. When the body removes excess sugar through the urine, this usually leads to weight loss. Even as you eat more and more to satisfy your hunger.

  1. Diabetes: Doesn’t hurt, but it kills

Irritability and mood changes

The mood changes associated with type XNUMX diabetes usually occur with the other symptoms of diabetes rather than on their own. More and more studies show a correlation between moods and the fluctuations in blood sugar levels that characterize diabetes.

Pre-diabetes

It is nothing more than a blood sugar disorder, which often turns into diabetes within a few years. That is why it is worth checking your blood sugar from time to time.
