The Internet Patient Account (IKP for short) is an Internet, modern application. Thanks to it, you have quick and safe access to your medical history. Using this system, you can subscribe, among others for vaccination against COVID-19.
What is needed to use the Internet Patient Account?
You need a trusted profile to log in to the Patient’s Internet Account. It is an electronic signature. It proves your identity. It will work in various situations. For example, when obtaining an ID card, setting up a business, checking penalty points and submitting a PIT declaration or application for 500+.
There are two options for creating a trusted profile:
- Online – you just need to be a customer of electronic banking at PKO Bank Polski SA, Santander, Bank Pekao, mBank, ING Bank Śląski, Alior Bank, Millennium Bank, T-Mobile Usługi Bankowe and the Envelo platform. You can log in to your account and create a profile. The bank then confirms your identity and the trusted profile becomes active.
- At the office – first you need to register at pz.gov.pl. Then go to the confirmation point. It may be one of the branches of the National Health Fund, a commune office or a tax office or another facility marked with the PZ sign. Remember to do it within 14 days of registration.
When is the Internet Patient Account useful?
Users of the Patient Online Account appreciate them, among others that it allows them to keep order in medical documents, without the need to create a physical catalog for prescriptions, etc. IKP allows you to collect many data in one place – if necessary, the patient does not have to look for the necessary document hidden somewhere in a pile of pages. This is a solution that is often used by supporters of quick access to data.
The Internet Patient Account allows you to skip a visit to the clinic – it is especially helpful for the elderly and those with a weakened immune system, e.g. when there is flu in the city and even a medical consultation may end in an infection for them. Supporters of the Internet Patient Account appreciate that they do not have to receive physical prescriptions, thanks to which the purchase of the drug is faster – this is especially important for busy people who have little time.

They will be available on the Patient Online Account within 24 hours after the first login. ZIP is a nationwide website for patients. Provides information collected by the National Health Fund. Anyone who is insured can use it.
Why is it worth using the Patient Online Account?
The Patient’s Internet Account enables the patient to quickly access his medical data. By e-mail or SMS, he or she can receive an e-prescription or e-referral and check the history of his visits under the National Health Fund. What’s more, he can buy prescription drugs at various pharmacies and not lose the refund.
The Patient Online Account enables the execution of e-prescriptions from doctors, nurses and midwives. An e-prescription can be obtained without the need to visit a specialist, but also after the visit and after a telephone consultation. Through the portal, the patient can receive a notification about the issued prescription and obtain the code needed to complete it. The User of the Patient Online Account may also authorize the indicated person to have access to their medical data and other information regarding their health condition.
Is the Internet Patient Account a solution for everyone?
The e-health area is dynamically developing year by year and arouses a lot of emotions. However, for many people, especially the elderly, setting up an Internet Patient Account may be too difficult. It is also worth adding that many retired doctors, who are less able to cope with modern technologies, also have problems with operating the system – and this may even lead to the exclusion of many specialists from their professional life.
What should you know about ePrescriptions?
E-prescriptions are stored in the system for 5 years. If they contain a mistake, the pharmacist can correct them at the doctor’s request. Both on the e-prescription and on the paper one, the doctor may prescribe no more than 5 medications. Chronically ill patients can receive an e-prescription for up to one year. What’s more, also thanks to the e-prescription, it is possible to buy a cheaper alternative to the drug.
